What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a form of soft tissue therapy that is very gentle and relaxing. It promotes realignment and balance within the body, using subtle moves directly on the skin or through light clothing. Bowen utilises neutral stimulus and the body's nervous system to trigger the body into healing itself using acupressure.

What to expect in a Bowen Treatment

There are no heavy pressures, oils or needles used in Bowen Techniques; this makes it ideal for individuals who are not keen on manipulative or invasive therapies. All the techniques are very refined in their application, mostly using a rolling motion of the therapist's hand at key points on the body; some producing immediate effect whilst others take a few hours or so to work fully.

As the treatment is so gentle it is also suitable for use on children as well.

Pain Relief Through Bowen Therapy

The application of Bowen techniques to the soft tissue of the body including muscles, fascia, connective tissues including tendons and ligaments; will help with the body's functions and posture - relieving pain and discomfort. Bowen does this by promoting the body's healing and functions.

The recovery could be from conditions diverse such as pain incurred through poor posture or joint pain; through to improving the functions of internal organs. This leads to a restoration of the body's optimal state, homeostasis.

Bowen Technique on Pain Management

The pain relief gained through Bowen Therapy can also be effective on long-term conditions helping with their pain management; potentially reducing reliance on pain relief. In some cases, the pain relief can be substantive, rapid and improve the overall life quality of the individual.

Due to its low impact application; Bowen Therapy is ideally suited for ongoing treatment of long term health conditions as part of a care plan. Bowen is holistic therapy and treats the person as a whole; promoting homeostasis within the body. The treatment is not restricted to just the condition that is prevalent; often underlying imbalances and issues will need to be addressed. These may become evident during a treatment and the therapist will discuss them with you appropriately.

Bowen Treatments and Sessions

Prior to a course of Bowen therapy, we advise you to speak to the therapist for an initial free consultation. This will allow a better understanding and make for more effective therapy sessions tailored to your needs.

Treatments are priced at £50 for the first appointment and then subsequent appointments are at £50 each. A discount for booking courses may be available; payable in advance.

Bowen sessions usually last between 40 - 60 mins and a course of 3 treatments is normally recommended, although more sessions may be required for long-standing conditions or if re-injury occurs.

NOTE: The Bowen session will contain short gaps where the therapist lets the client rest in-between applications. This is completely normal and is a key part of the technique in letting the body rest and heal itself. Please ask the practitioner if you are unsure.
